Which beginner AI course fits your goal?

If you are unsure what you need, try a short free introduction first. If you already have a recurring work task in mind, look for practice that resembles that task.
Three different starting points
Google Cloud’s Introduction to Generative AI is a 45-minute orientation. It is a reasonable first step if the terminology is unfamiliar, but its short format should not be confused with extensive practical training.
Google AI Essentials takes a broader workplace approach. Google currently lists under five hours and hands-on activities. Our reading of its syllabus makes it a candidate for people seeking a general introduction to using AI at work.
DeepLearning.AI’s AI For Everyone covers the organisational side of AI. It may be more relevant when your immediate task is discussing project opportunities with colleagues than when you want to practise a specific chatbot workflow.
Prefer a free practical start?
Consider AI Fluency: Framework & Foundations for a framework for working with AI, or Cisco’s Introduction to Modern AI for a tour of tools with practical activities. Both belong on a shortlist alongside paid courses.
Use a real task to judge the fit
Before enrolling, write down one small task you regularly do: drafting an email, turning meeting notes into actions, or comparing several documents. Use invented or non-sensitive material for practice. Check whether the syllabus teaches a process you can apply to that task.
After a lesson, repeat the task without following the demonstration step by step. Can you explain what you asked the AI to do, check the result and correct an error? That is more useful evidence of learning than a finished video playlist.
Check what you are actually buying
- Does the price cover the whole course or one month of access?
- Are the exercises and certificate included?
- Will you need a separate paid AI tool?
- Can you fit both lessons and practice into your week?
A completion certificate records completion of a programme. It is not, by itself, proof that you can perform a job or a guarantee of employment. Choose for the skills you will practise first.
